Fifty quid to get to the hotel and back from the airport - ouch. Everything worked but looked old and nothing like the picture on the website.

This is a cute modest place. The host is extremely accommodating. The location is pretty great, although it's across the road from the beach. We had a great time here. It's not luxurious by any means but does the job.

TL;DR: Look somewhere else for a place to stay in Barbados if you value your sanity. Very disappointed with my stay here. Starting with the location. The icon on the map is not accurate, it is on the EAST side of H1, actually about 300 meters up the road named Clark Road No. 1. Even the taxi driver that took us had a hard time finding it and had to call the owner to figure out where it was. It is not on the beach as the map shows, they do have beach access, but it is about a quarter mile walk down there and is not accessible to young kids or the infirm (the stairs are very steep and dangerous). The first problem was the dogs. There is no mention that the owner has 4 or 5 dogs at the apartments anywhere on the website or on any details that I received before arriving. They were kind enough to greet us at the gate before any of the staff. While this may not be a problem for some, I have allergies that made this quite difficult. They also bark randomly all throughout the night making a good night's rest extremely difficult. My wife normally isn't bothered by dogs, but even she had a hard time with this bunch. The rooms are old and dilapidated. They look like they were built in the 1950s and have only had very poor maintenance done since. A lot of the appliances provided didn't work, the stove couldn't even boil a pot of water, we had to cook using only the microwave. The windows are open, allowing all kinds of noise in without any muffling, we couldn't find a way to close them down or block out the noise they were letting in. The rooms were reasonably clean and the housekeeping was quite good although inconsistent. The WiFi offered didn't even reach the room, and I wasn't even able to find out until after I already agreed to pay the 3 USD per day fee to use it, and no, you can't get it for just a couple of days during your stay. The beach access is locked, you are provided a key at check-in so you can get through the gate. Our first trip down to the beach, we found the gate unlocked and proceeded in, had a great time, came back to the gate, and found it still unlocked. There were several people down there, so we left the gate as we found it: unlocked. Apparently, somebody stole the lock off the gate, and the owner blamed us for the missing lock since we were the only ones she saw go down there that day. She insisted that we pay for it. Be prepared to be nickled-and-dimed for everything that may go wrong during your stay there. The food offered at breakfast (which costs extra) made my wife sick, she started feeling better once we started cooking for ourselves.
